I downloaded the driver from (the RT257x USB one) and installed it. I bought a new PC with the AsRock Z77 Extreme 4m motherboard, since this has no WLAN, I extracted the WLAN card from my old PC, a Ralink RT 2571 WF, an connected it to the new board. In the device manager, an unknown device shows up, but if I tell it to search its driver, it does not find it (searching in the whole C partition). Download recovery disk for Windows XP

Create a recovery disk for Windows XP
Before you continue, check if you still have the original Windows XP installation CD.
That original installation CD can act as a recovery disk that you can use to run Recovery Console (Command line utility) to repair your computer with.
From Recovery Console, you can run the bootcfg, chkdsk, and more commands.
If you have the original CD
If you have the disk, follow these steps to open Recovery Console:
- Insert the CD in the optical drive
- Restart your computer
- At the Welcome to Setup screen, press R to load Recovery Console
- You’ll need to log in as an Administrator or with any user that has administrative rights to the system. Do so and enter the password.
- Press Enter
- The Recovery Console should now be available

If you don’t have the original CD
If you don’t have the original CD with Windows XP, you can create a bootable floppy diskette.
It’s required that you can boot into Windows XP to create the bootable diskette. Otherwise, if you can’t boot into Windows XP, go to Download recovery disk for Windows XP.
You’ll need to make sure your computer’s floppy disk is working properly first. Your computer with Windows XP must have the floppy disk functioning.
To create the bootable diskette for Windows XP, follow these steps:
- Boot into Windows XP
- Insert the diskette in the floppy disk
- Go to My Computer
- Right-click on the floppy disk drive. This is usually the
A:drive. - Click Format
- Check the Create an MS-DOS startup disk option at the Format options section
- Click Start
- Wait for the process to finish
- Once it’s completed, safely remove the diskette for the floppy disk
Once the recovery diskette is created, follow these instructions everytime you need to use it:
- Check if the diskette is in write-protect mode
- Insert the diskette in the floppy disk
- Restart the computer
- Follow the instructions on the screen after you’ve booted your sytem from the diskette

I am trying to fix someone’s computer, and I came across instructions that said to use the 'Recovery Console'.
I started the computer with F8, however I do not see option for the Recovery Console, only
I do not have the Windows XP installation disk either, however I do have the product key, found on sticker on the case.
Is this Recovery Console something that I can download as an ISO?

Follow the following steps to install the Recovery Console:
With the Windows XP installation disk

- Insert the Windows XP CD into the CD drive.
- Click Start, and then click Run or press Win+R.
- In the run box, type:
- For x86 (32 bit) edition
- For x64 Edition
- A Windows Setup Dialog Box appears. The Windows Setup Dialog Box describes the Recovery Console option. To confirm the installation, click Yes.
- Restart the computer. The next time that you start your computer, 'Microsoft Windows Recovery Console' appears on the start-up menu.
Without the Windows XP installation disk
- Click Start, and then click Run or press Win+R.
- In the run box, type:
- A Windows Setup Dialog Box appears. The Windows Setup Dialog Box describes the Recovery Console option. To confirm the installation, click Yes.
- Restart the computer. The next time that you start your computer, 'Microsoft Windows Recovery Console' appears on the start-up menu.
You can also access the recovery console directly from the Windows XP installation disk.
Follow the steps to access the Recovery Console:
- Insert the Windows XP startup disk into the floppy disk drive, or insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD drive, and then restart the computer.
Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD drive if you are prompted. - When the 'Welcome to Setup' screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
- If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.
- When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
- At the command prompt, type the appropriate commands to diagnose and repair your Windows XP installation.
